Refined Sugar Free, Dairy Free Ice Cream that is Paleo, AIP and SCD Friendly
I am ALWAYS on the hunt at my local grocery stores for new food products that are Specific Carbohydrate Diet approved. I check the labels on everything, hoping to find something without refined sugar and refined carbohydrates. Visiting new grocery stores and health food stores – especially when traveling – is one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing what sort of products they carry and searching for something I might be able to try.
You might be able to imagine, then, how excited I was to discover the Frönen brand of frozen desserts. I came across these delicious pints at both my local Fresh Thyme and Whole Foods. Ice cream has always been one of my favorite desserts. When I saw this was dairy-free, preservative-free, and sweetened only with honey, I had to give it a try!
I started with their Mint Chip flavor, and it blew me away!
It is SO GOOD.
Mint Chocolate Chip is one of the all-time best ice cream flavors, in my opinion, so I might be a little biased. (Thin Mints are also one of my favorite cookies, so I guess I’m just a mint and chocolate kind of gal!)
Frönen came up with the perfect combination for the flavor, texture, and sweetness of Mint Chocolate Chip. It is subtly sweet and creamy, with the crunchy texture of chocolate chips and just the right amount of mint. Absolutely delicious.
According to Frönen’s website, the Mint Chip flavor has only five ingredients – coconut cream, honey, water, unsweetened chocolate, and mint extract. Their frozen desserts are Paleo, AIP & SCD friendly.
I’ve since tried a few of their other flavors, most of which use banana as a base which tends to give them more of a fruity flavor. These flavors are definitely tasty, but a little less like ice cream than the Mint Chip which doesn’t include any fruit.
I highly recommend checking them out! With the holidays coming up, this is also a great dessert option to have on hand for family members or guests who follow Paleo, AIP, or SCD diets.
I hope you can find a pint of their Mint Chip to try sometime soon!
